Received a message from a lady named Jean that I was in the top finalist in a car sweepstakes I had entered (possibly up to 18 months ago) and I was guaranteed a prize. When I called back, her voice mail says "you've reached the verification department." I think it's a telemarketing scam?

Got the same call, same message on my home phone. Called repeatedly during the day from work. No answer, only a message from "Jean" saying she is away from her desk and to leave a number. Must not be legitimate but it certainly sounded real.

My call came from 219-323-3144. The 877 # is the one I was told to call back to. I got the exact same message. Sounds like a scam if we all get the same thing, and those that call back only get a machine. It sounded more real than most, but there were red flags to me. She never named a company, or a car brand, or anything identifiable. She didn't ask for a specific person (who in the household won). She also said we won a car or $25K cash "in lieu of the company's annual giveaway." There's something about that that makes little sense and sounded fishy to me. In addition, she named those two things only as the possible prizes. Then at the end, way after she said a car or cash, she said we were finalists for one of three prizes, so we're guaranteed something. If it's true they'll give you some prize, they'll probably go with that unspecified 3rd option which could be anything - a floormat, for example. :/ Oh, and she also said we could've signed up at any of 300 locations without specifying examples. Did she mean in person, online, via mail? There's enough vagueness to peak interest, yet leave it open to making people believe they may have forgotten if they entered any such contest.

They seem to be the going scam. My call came from 219-779-0689. Gave me the identical message as Amy. Be alert!

I got a call from Jean saying that I had won one of three prizes. She does not ask for anyone specific. She mentioned 2 prizes a car or $25K cash. She also stated "we" could have entered 18 months ago; I have not entered my phone number in anything. This appears to be a telemarketing lure. 268

Jean from some gift verification department claiming I entered to win a car or $25,000 12-18 months ago just like everyone else here. Does not provide specific information. Then at the end she says it's definitely not a sales call (very convincing). Seems like a scam.

Same as everyone else. She did sound very professional and piqued my interest enough to look up the number. I was skeptical because she left no details (as others have stated)about who she is, who she works for, who was promoting the contest, etc. ... and 12-18 months seems like a very long time for a contest to wait to announce winners.

Same as everyone else. She said that I won one of three prizes. She was very vague and claimed that I entered to win a car or $25,000, which is not true. Obviously it's some sort of scam.

Red flags from the get go. Thankfully we now have very simple ways to research stuff like this via the Internet. "Jean" said word for word what was stated above in other calls. Sounds so scammy. She did promise it was not a sales call.

I have won things before. (4 tickets to Disneyland!) and they knew my name and where I entered the raffle! Of course because it was legit. This sure doesn't seem legit.

Same message, word for word, but from "Trish."

It's so great that we can instantly check this stuff out online. Thank you everyone who posted about this.

Darn I really wanted the car! But alas, I researched before calling that number back and found this thread. I got the same message. And unfortunately, I don't think any of us are getting a car!

Got called back. So it's one of those travel company presentations. The one she referred to will take place in Ontario, CA. The presentation is an hour long and between getting a scratch off and the give-aways, it's about an hour and a half. You listen to the presentation first, then one person gets the car or the $25K, and the rest get vacations or a 40-inch TV by LG. The sponsor is the travel/cruise company. I'm guessing that if this is legit, they are probably going to give away the second prize (the vacation for two) most of all. Will let you know what happens.
